Dangriga Urban Farmers Events for November 2021 and December 2021 & a little update from May 2021.

Hello again everyone.
We are trusting that you are taking great care of yourselves and your families.

We want to update you on our events since May 2021

We are now officially incorporated as a non-profit organization. God is great!

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

  • We celebrated our first market day anniversary in July 2021. We started this venture in July 2020. We were slowed down by the sudden rise in COVID-19 infections in the country. Now that we have learned a bit more about it, and how to be careful, we are back providing the service we promised to the community. We are grateful to both Mr. Malcohm Zabaneh and Mayor Mariano for their ongoing support.

  • We visited Central Farm in July 2021 to learn more about farming and to meet experts in the various fields of agriculture. The trip was very informative. We learned many ways how to preserve food items to increase their shelf life by physical manipulation (without adding chemicals as preservatives).

  • We visited again to assist a local farmer/entrepreneur in processing his plantain into powder. We keep trying to find ways to help limit the wastage of food materials and fruits

  • We will be holding our market day for November on the 20th instead of end of the month. We want to help in guiding back people into eating sustainably, that is, using items they produce in their local environment.

  • On November 19th we also want to showcase local and cultural food, drinks, arts, crafts, and many more.

We also want to bring a traditional twist to Christmas...again with the aim to guide people back into eating local and making use of readily available materials in their environment.

The market day in December will be held on the 18th

Come and support vendors from across the Jewel.

Come join us in our quest to empower ourselves and our community.

Cuttings are removed and placed into a container with clean water until roots are formed.

Note that tomatoes can be planting in buckets.

(We found - by experiment - that tomatoes bear faster when grown from cuttings)

We are especially thankful to Mr. Malcohm Zabaneh for allowing us to use the open space in front of Puma Gas Station.

We are grateful to the Mayor for his full support of our vision and community efforts.

We say a warm thank you to the local media houses that have given us some publicity that allowed us to further share DUF's vision for community empowerment and development.
